Phil Brown (aka Fixit)

Phil joined Philips Electronics as a Production Technician at their factory making TV tubes in Durham.  This was the start of a 29 year career with Philips in manufacturing, product development, quality and general management.  In 2006 he was MD of the LG.Philips cathode factory in Blackburn when they won the Britain’s Best Factories Award for world class manufacturing.  On leaving LG.Philips at the end of 2006 Phil set up on his own, working with other companies to improve their operational performance.  Working with large multinationals, SMEs and family run businesses the challenge is always to get the best out of your resources; your equipment, your processes, your cash and most important of all your people.

  




Sample Achievements

  • Managed the global introduction of new products for Philip Display systems with projects in China, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and five other European countries.
  • Won the Britains Best Factories Award for world class manufacturing on the back of a 47% increase in productivity over 2 years and an integrated lean/six sigma program with high levels of employee engagement.
  • Developed a Continuous Improvement structure with a major contact lens manufacturer and trained Senior and middle management in the core concept, tolls and practical approaches to effective implementation.
  • Coached two teams in six sigma DMAIC problem solving approach to realise 20% improvement in line yield performance of critical new products.

Top 3 Films: Deliverance, Gregory’s Girl, Alien
Likes: Live music, good food, fixing things (anything), cooking,  good company, golfing with the lads.
Dislikes: People who just can’t be bothered, self service checkout tills, technology that won’t work today when it worked perfectly well yesterday, routine.
